Glen Luchford

Glen Luchford is a British photographer and film maker. At age 24 he signed with New York agency Art and Commerce. In 1997 he signed an exclusive deal with Prada shooting their ad campaigns and has since shot ad campaigns for Levi's, Calvin Klein, Yves Saint Laurent, and Mercedes-Benz among others. His editorial work includes spreads to Arena, The Face, Harper's Bazar, Vanity Fair, W, British, American and Italian Vogue. He has also worked extensively with fellow British artist Jenny Seville with shows at the Gagosian Gallery, the MOMA and the Victoria and Albert Museum, where a selection of his photographs is part of the permanent collection. In 2001 Luchford directed the film "From Here to Where," about a filmmaker wanting to make a film about a man stranded in an airport. It is rumored to be the inspiration behind Steven Spielberg's film The Terminal.

I am totally in love with Luchford's ethereal style. Certain images I would describe as haunting. His use of light is amazing as is the use of vignetting. His selective focus also brings another element into his work. Most schools of thought would say that if one thing is going to be in focus it needs to be the eyes and face but Luchford will often leave the face a bit soft (and often partially shadowed) and have the focus elsewhere. As I move forward with my work, I will look to Luchford as inspiration for ways to achieve a glamorous look in a different and artistic manor.
